‘Trump Signature Edition Swamp Boot’ May Violate Constitution’s Emoluments Clause
Washington (eTruePolitics) – Current president Donald Trump announced today that draining the swamp in Washington was “harder than I thought and I don’t want to do it anymore.”
Mr. Trump did not linger on abandoning one of his key campaign promises, instead pivoting to urge all Americans and other visitors to Washington to buy the Trump Signature Edition Swamp Boot “in order to be 100% safe from Hillary Clinton.”
The Trump boot is a $666.00 knock-off of L.L. Bean’s iconic, best-selling ‘duck’ boot.
“It’s got gold laces,” Trump told Fox Business News personality Maria Bartiromo.
The Office of Government Ethics later announced it was launching an investigation into “Bootgate.” Ethics lawyers say releasing the Trump-branded boot appears to violate the emolument clause of the U.S. Constitution which prohibits gifts, including compensation, to elected officials.
In an angry exchange with reporters, White House press secretary Sean Spicer refused to say whether Mr. Trump had a financial interest in the Bean boot.
“Rich people need to keep their feet dry too,” snarled Spicer. “What’s so hard to understand about that?”
