FOLLOWING SUCCESS OF ‘YELLOW FEVER,’ WHOLE FOODS TO ADD ‘BLACK MALARIA,’ SECOND IN-STORE RESTAURANT FRANCHISE
Austin, TX (eTruePolitics) – On the heels of the success of “Yellow Fever,” Whole Foods’ new in-store Asian restaurant, CEO John Mackey announced today that the gourmet supermarket chain would add “Black Malaria,” a second in-store restaurant franchise.
“Black Malaria is designed to appeal to our valued African-American customers, “ Mackey said, who added he was unconcerned that the restaurant would face criticism for what many consider a racially insensitive name.
“Nothing racist about Black Malaria,” said Mackey, doubling down on a similar defense Whole Foods offered to criticism of the ‘Yellow Fever’ name.
“And believe me,” Mackey added, “Black Malaria’s pig’s feet and collard greens are to die for.”
